Saturday night at Stone Free promises a couple of one-offs in the arena. Thrash veterans Megadeth are playing their only UK set in 2018 before headliners Scorpions take to the stage to perform their only full production UK show this year. More than 50 years after formation the German rockers still manage to sound epic and energetic in equal measure. Recently the band have been exploring their extensive back catalogue on stage, flirting with prog influences and throwing in the odd Motorhead cover while still finding time to structure their set around classics like ‘Wind Of Change’, ‘Still Loving You’ and an extended version of ‘Rock You Like A Hurricane’, which seems to get longer with every performance.

Megadeth are more brutal, but have a similar sensitivity when it comes to melding classics like ‘Hanger 18’ and ‘Peace Sells’ with relatively new tracks like the Grammy-winning ‘Dystopia’ from 2016. Ratcheting up the tongue-in-someone-else’s-cheek sleaze level before Mustaine and co take over the arena are Buckcherry, with a full throttle rock ’n’ roll set featuring tracks like ‘Crazy Bitch’, ‘Tight Pants’ and ‘Say Fuck It’.

The Indigo Stage offers a variety of rock options throughout the day and evening with stoner metal outfit Orange Goblin, US alt-metallers Warrior Soul, rising British rockers Stone Broken, Belgian power trio Triggerfinger and bluesy biker rock duo The Picturebooks

Providing a noisy welcome to all Stone Free Festival-goers as they arrive at the venue is the Orange Amps Stage. Showcasing up-and-coming bands on Saturday it features heavy riffs from Daxx & Roxane, blues rockers Dirty Thrills, Glaswegian grit rock from Anchor Lane and Aaron Buchanan & The Cult Classics featuring the ex-Heaven’s Basement frontman.

Away from the music the Speakeasy Lounge offers comedy and spoken word with performances from Tiffany Stevenson, Abigolia Schamaun, Fin Taylor and Garrett Millerick.
